Wayne Gretzky Quiz – Easy

Gretzky scored  52 goals and 163 points for a record 215 points in the 1985-86 season breaking his own record of 212 points set 4 years earlier.

Wayne was born on January 26, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario.

Gretzky played his last game in the NHL for the New York Rangers on April 18th, 1999. Wayne thought it was fitting that his last game was in a year that end in 99. So do we Wayne!

Wayne Gretzky won 4 Stanley Cups. He won each of those Stanley cups with the Edmonton Oilers in 1983-84, 1984-85, 1986-87, and 1987-88. As well, in two of those trips he won the Conn Smythe trophy as the Most Valuable Player.

Gretzky made it only once to the Stanley Cup finals with the Kings. Unfortunately they lost to the Montreal Canadiens in 5 games.

Gretzky scored 92 goals in the 1981-82 season to set the record for most goals in an NHL season. He broke Phil Esposito’s previous record of 76 goals from the 1970-71 season. 

Wayne Gretzky played for four teams: Edmonton Oilers (1978-1988), Los Angeles Kings (1988-1996), St. Louis Blues (1996) and the New York Rangers (1996-99).

Wayne has 9 Hart Trophies - the most of any player.

On Feb. 27, 1996, St. Louis traded forwards Craig Johnson, Roman Vopat, and Patrice Tardif to the Los Angeles Kings to obtain Gretzky for their playoff push.  Gretzky would sign with New York Rangers as a free agent the next year.

Gretzky wore the number 9 growing up because his hockey hero Gordie Howe also wore number 9. Gretzky would switch to 99 in junior hockey because the number 9 was already taken by a teammate when he got there.

Nicknamed "The Great One" he has been called the greatest hockey player of all-time.

Wayne coached the Phoenix Coyotes for a mostly uneventful 3 seasons.
